Easter and ANZAC Holiday driving message

Wairarapa Road Safety Council is urging all travelers to prioritize safety during the upcoming Easter and ANZAC holiday period. With the tragic loss of seven lives on New Zealand roads during this time last year, Projects Coordinator Holly Hullena emphasizes the importance of each individual taking responsibility to ensure a safer journey for everyone.

"As we approach this busy travel season, we want to remind everyone of the vital role they play in road safety. Our goal is to prevent any unnecessary tragedies and ensure that no family has to endure the heartache of losing a loved one," said Holly Hullena.

Key safety tips include:

1. Avoid Distractions: Keep your focus on the road. Put away mobile devices and avoid any activities that take your attention away from driving.

2. Manage Fatigue: Fatigue is a silent danger. Take regular breaks, share the driving if possible, and ensure you are well-rested before setting off on your journey.

3. Plan Ahead: Allow extra time for your travels to accommodate increased traffic. Patience and planning can significantly reduce stress and improve safety.

4. Buckle Up: Ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts. It’s a simple step that can save lives.

5. Drive to the Conditions: Be mindful of weather and road conditions, and adjust your speed accordingly.
